Who said that e-mail was dying?

e-mailOne of the oldest tools of the Internet, e-mail is evolving and increasingly creates a new set of functions. If you search the Internet, you’ll find hundreds of applications designed to help you collaborate with others more effectively. However, to examine their own habits, you will most likely find that using just one piece of software for that purpose: the email.

A recent study by Forrester Research, found that 83 percent of business users often send e-mail attachments to colleagues instead of using collaboration software. According to a recent survey of technology consulting firm People-OnTheGo, the average information worker spends 3.3 hours a day dealing with email, and 65 percent of workers have their email open all time.

Even Facebook, which looked like a possible replacement for e-mail, at least for young people, has acknowledged that the email does not go anywhere and less waste. The company announced a new messaging service that integrates e-mail outside their own internal messaging system, a recognition of the resilience of email, and an attempt to improve its functionality.

Other software makers seem to have accepted that I will never pull people’s attention away from your email. On the other hand, is looking to add new capabilities for social collaboration and e-mail.

“It is clear that e-mail is being used and abused, even,” said Yaacov Cohen, CEO of Mainsoft, a company based in Tel Aviv, Israel, which sells a plug-in called Harmon.ie. The plug-in link an email application to a platform for collaboration, such as Google Docs, and profiles a person’s social networking calendar applications, software for voice over Internet protocol, and so on.

E-mail friends is far from dying, you always wait for a letter or message, even mail.
